Mission Statement

Marillac House Ltd is committed to responding to the needs of people who have an intellectual disability and their families. The service reflects the spirit of the Daughters of Charity recognising Christ present in all those in need. Modelled on the vision of Louise de Marillac, Marillac House endeavours to be an agency which respects and serves those with a disability, is proactive, collaborative and empowering of clients and staff.

Marillac House offers interim and long term residential, supported accommodation to children with a disability. Twenty children live in 4 houses in East Brighton. They are aged 8 to 18 years and while all residents have a significant intellectual disability, many have additional disabilities.

For some families placement of their child at Marillac House comes after many years of dedicated care and struggle. Marillac is also the home for several children who are away from their families and have been placed under Guardianship. Regardless of family connections, Marillac is "home", a place full of love, laughter and fun. The energetic and professional residential staff create an atmosphere of respect, compassion and educational experiences.

Maryville Hostel provides supported accommodation for 5 girls aged 15 to 18 years of age. All must be eligible for IDS registration or mildly intellectually disabled. Some residents of the Hostel have mild dual disabilities. Placements are generally of medium term duration up (up to 3 years). Each resident participates in an individually devised programme to assist her to live independently in the general community. Greater self reliance and confidence is fostered amongst residents as they progress through the programme.

Marillac Accommodation Support Team (MAST) is committed to providing independent living skills training to those clients who wish to live independently in their own homes. Clients are assisted through individualised programmes developed to meet their needs in all aspects of daily life, health and recreation.

Transition Housing: In order to prepare clients for private rental MAST offers an intensive programme which utilises four transition properties.

Educational Support: Marillac House has employed the services several consultants to work with the clients and staff to meet some of the specific needs of clients. The consultants work in conjunction with the Educational Liaison Officer at Marillac House to ensure that clients are given the opportunity to reach their maximum potential, to participate in a meaningful leisure activity and to experience success in their achievements.

Among the consultants are a Speech Pathologist, Computer Consultant and Music Therapist.
